Know Before You Go!
If you are aware of the
airline restrictions before you start to pack, you won’t be blindsided when you
arrive at the airport. Carry-On Luggage
should not be overstuffed or over-packed.
That will slow you down when going through security. Keep the carry on
organized so if security opens the bag, you can pack it back up quickly. Use those handy packing cubes or clear
plastic bags, so security won’t have to take out individual items. If you are bringing any liquids or gels, make
sure they are less than 3 ounces and are in a one quart zip-lock bag. If the carry on is overstuffed and it’s a
full plane, you may not be able to bring it on board. You are entitled to one personal bag
also. Your “personal” bag can be a tote,
briefcase, or large handbag, but it has to fit underneath the seat in front of
you. Again, don’t overstuff the bag as
that will probably slow you down going through security. Be sure you have a luggage tag on your bags. It is also not a bad idea to have one tag on
each handle (the side and top lift handle.) Bright colored tags or monogrammed
tags help you to quickly identify your bag.
You want your information showing no matter which way it comes around on
the carousel. Be sure to remove all old
labels and bar codes from the bag. If
you don’t, it can be sent to your previous destination. Keep your baggage within the weight
limit. Overweight bags get charged on
every leg of the journey and it can be expensive. It is a good idea to lock your bag, and be
sure it is a TSA approved lock. Locking
the bag keeps it from opening accidentally and spilling your belongings. Be patient and have an enjoyable trip.
Here
is the list of some domestic and international baggage restrictions on carry on
and checked baggage. Overall dimensions
are obtained by adding length, height and width together. Remember, these are current restrictions as
of January 2014, and you should check with individual carriers to be sure they
have not changed!
